Rich turquoise waters, white sand beaches and a relaxed island-life flow. This is all waiting for you in Curacao!
Phil and I planned this trip to not only escape the cold but to celebrate one very incredible year together. Our focus of this vacation was to relax, explore and enjoy each other’s company. Curacao, a Dutch Caribbean Island full of beautiful bright buildings and homes, was the most perfect island for all of that!
I have received sooooo many questions about our trip as Curacao is not a popular tourist spot. Here is a bit about why we went to Curacao, what we did and the one thing you MUST know before you go! Read more below!
WHY WE CHOSE CURAÇAO:
- Curacao is part of the ABC islands; Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao. I have been to Aruba a couple times and the weather is always perfect so we were thinking it should be similar in Curacao. Which it was!
- Curacao is not a popular tourist island like Aruba is known to be. Aruba is very much a party island while Curacao is more calm, quiet and about enjoying the natural beauty.
- We both have never been to Curacao! We wanted to choose a spot that would be a brand new experience together.
WHERE WE STAYED:
We stayed at the Sunscape Resort, Spa & Casino. If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that our room was first double booked and then the second room was given away while we were eating dinner. They had a room available for us that was below what we had paid which was upsetting but we stayed calm, patient and understanding because the staff was so sweet. It is just the island life and we had to go with the flow. Well, going with the flow got us an ocean view suite upgrade, couples massage and free wifi. A reminder to always stay kind!!
The resort is all-inclusive with a large buffet and a few restaurants. The food and drinks were decent, nothing fantastic but we both agreed it was fair to what we paid. We got a really fantastic deal on BookIt.com that included our flights.
WHAT WE DID:
Phil and I wanted to see the island from as many angles as we could within the time we had in Curacao. Here is a snippet of our adventures:
Car Rental for beach-hopping to the following spots:
Two restaurants we loved off of the resort were:
FYI, Curacao is known for their snorkeling but that isn’t really our thing. Let me know if you take the plunge!
The number one thing you must know and be prepared for when visiting Curacao is that you need to go with the flow and adjust yourself to island time. No matter where we were, (at the resort, at a restaurant, at a store) the service was slow and sometimes we did not get what we asked for but everyone was so very pleasant. It all worked out with patience and kindness and of course knowing that you are in their country so go with the island flow!
