What to wear in early September:
It is too warm to wear your new bulky knits but it is also past the time to be frolicking in your bright florals. The next few weeks are kind of a weird in between fashion point. Now is the time that I like to do a “palette cleanse” and wear mostly neutrals. I usually do this in early September and after the holidays in January. In early September though, the key trending color to add in is a military or olive green. This is a perfect transition color and I especially love it for a utility vest. Utility vests work with sleeveless tees or dresses or long sleeved tees as the weather gets cooler. You can dress it up as you see here or dress it down with a tee, destroyed denim and a cute beanie! You will get a lot of use out of these vests right through Thanksgiving.
How do you wear neutrals without looking like a plain Jane?
The best way to wear neutrals without looking like a bore is to wear neutrals with texture. So here for example, my cream dress is lace, my sandy colored sandals have a faux suede fringe and my beige handbag has a tassel. All of these elements add intrigue and a little edge. With neutral colors, don’t be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone with the fabrics and 3D elements. More is more!!
